Inundation

I wake, sleepy
to lightning shrill;
the room is dim
and I am still.

Summer brings storms
sweeping unceased
the countryside
from west to east.

Soon it will bring
unwelcome guest:
the hurricane
from east to west.

I turn over
as the rain teems,
lulled back into
my fretful dreams.
