Aranyani
Dancer in the forest glade wearing anklets with bells,
fearless of remote places, never lonely is the dancer,
never afraid, she is always whole in herself, fearless.
She can feed all humans and animals though she never
has tilled the land, never will; we marvel that she
can always provide, is ever giving, and forever has
more bounty than we need, more than we ever can
take; never does she stop her dancing, she gives more
and more and more. However much we do take,
her generosity astounds us. She is fleeting and
elusive; we rarely see her but hear the sound of her
bells tinkling. She escapes all like the wind, elusive.

Atropos
Praise the inflexible, inevitable
Lady who comes with beloved shears to cut,
To bring an end to all lives, to all loves; She
who cannot be turned.
One of three daughters of night and darkness; sweet
is Her unavoidable kiss, Her caress
inexorable, ineludible; laud
Her in Her working.
Inescapable, ineluctable, fixed,
predestined, predetermined, fated, certain,
unpreventable, assured, imminent, she's
irresistible.

Aura (Goddess)
Early mornings have fresh, cool air
Which wash away night's mad dreaming;
Insult not any goddess, dare
Not offense to be e'en seeming.
A violation enrages,
Ensuing horror it stages -
The following transformation
May be petty compensation.

Goddess of the moon,
Queen of the night,
The swallowing of sickness and death;
Eagle in flight,
Jaguar on the hunt,
Lights in motion from the west;
Only death,
Merely illness,
Always the rebirth on the other side;
A beginning in darkness,
An ending in darkness,
Light and life only in the center;
A waxing crescent,
A waning crescent,
The fully glowing orb resplendent.

Holy is the Mother
of the people She made holy;
mountain healer of
all ills, saved by a sea dragon - to the mountain
She returned and birthed all.
Her heart is so sympathetic She,
Mother, gave to the people all of Her.

To She who dwells in the holy grove,
I beseech Thee, let Thy waters do their healing,
Take away my pain and suffering as is Thy duty, sacred.
We come to the place made sacred
Where two streams meet in the deep grove,
Ever seeking Thy blessings and healing.
Holy art Thou who gives healing,
Thus we hold Thy name as sacred;
Let none desecrate the trees and waters in thy grove.
The holy waters of your grove are healing for they are sacred.

We seek her blessings all, nevertheless.

Pale mother, we are piglets to your sow,
Fawns to your doe, foals to your mare, babies
At your breast, mere acorns to your great trees,
Small calves hungry, nursing, beneath your cow.
Every spring we again bend to plow
The earth for the seed, offerings to please
You in the planting, that we harvest these
Blessings in autumn, what you will allow.
Every morning you bring us the dawn;
At night protect lovers who have ill fate
From the tragedy otherwise brought on.
Elf-woman, white goddess, accept this plate
In thanks for all you provide; we have drawn
Strength and joy from you, only you can sate.

Great Bear Mother, staying firm, fixed
Well in the heavens, fertile one
Who guards Her cubs from evil done
In war or peace, where pain is mixed.
Protectress of the forest wild,
Strongest, mightiest huntress there -
We are humble before the Bear,
Majestic Queen, who feeds the child.

Ataegina Reborn in the Dark Night
Presiding over seasonal shifts;
When she descends, so do flora;
Hibernation through winter
Only to rise again,
Spring inflorescent
And full of all
The flowers
Blooming
Bright.

Forgive me as death comes, Goddess,
For I have done wrong and unless
I have your protection, I'm lost;
I need always your forgiveness.
I can now sense death's warm nearness,
So it is time that I confess:
I have done so many things wrong,
I have not always been blameless.
Once I hurt a child; more, not less,
I have lied, I have stolen; bless
Me, mother, for I will still sin
Before I die, I am excess.
I am responsible, distress
Is what I have given - express
No shock that I am guilty of
All that I finally express.
I turn to you, our protectress,
My wrongs I seek to now redress,
Before I die or in my next life
Let me undo, never regress.
For I have done wrong and unless
I have your protection, I'm lost;
I need always your forgiveness.
I can now sense death's warm nearness,
So it is time that I confess:

River bursting out, damp splashing, coursing
down from mountains falling, hunting the sea;
living Goddess pulsing forward towards
the telos, the cause and the effect, bring
all of us into being, returning
us back again whence we came, from the sea
which gave our birthing, to the sea again
for our dying. We are yours when living,
and we are yours after. There is no in
betweening, we are always yours, always.

I call to thee for protection,
dispatching terrors,
wet with battle-sweat,
all-victorious,
eagle-feeders.
Guard my family and me,
black singers,
blood-ember wielders,
holders of the light of battle,
senders of war needles.
Turn back my oppressors,
fellers of the life web,
wearers of bear shirts,
shield-gnawers,
sisters of battle.
Thwart my enemies,
makers of spear-din,
you who give the sleep of the sword,
who impart the flame-farewell,
whose works call the swan of blood.
I praise your aid,
ladies of the blood-worm,
of the wound-hoe,
of the leek of battle,
of the weather of weapons.

Buy My Fourth Book of Poetry
My new book of poetry A Few Principles of Dream Logic is now available on Amazon as Kindle eBook and paperback. The cover is my painting "Windowpain," one of my personal favorites out of the hundreds of artworks I've created so far.
The blurb: "The fourth book of Gwenhwyfar Rhwwttchen's poetry explores our nightly inner worlds and what she calls 'dream logic,' the rhyme and reason of dreaming which seems to lack logic entirely. Rhwwttchen offers a careful mixture of free and fixed verse in ten chapters ranging from principles, corollaries, and axioms to the dream world itself. Each chapter contains fifteen distinct poetic formulations of dreams and concepts related to dreams, including title poems. Here Rhwwttchen studies symbolism, mythology, alchemy, Jungian archetypes, Freudian wish-fulfillment, dream yoga, divination, and omens. Look for a sonnet redouble, rhyming couplets, tercets, quatrains, waka, blank verse, and what Rhwwttchen calls 'open meter,' which rhymes and where meter is unfettered by convention."

Lwa, Loa,
first Priestess, first Mambo,
Initiatrix in a white dress,
may She bless
all who go
to market, who hem and haw
over the prices of the bourgeois,
pockets deep to give to those who have less.
Saint Clare, gently grow
our compassion and press
us to help those whose raw
wounds and mess
come from those who oppress:
the old, the rich, the strong, the spouse, the status quo
and impress
us with the need to help the young, the poor, the weak, those in woe.
She will possess
gently, quietly, in kanzo,
never violent, never raw;
Her open palm hides no claw,
even in age She shows no flaw,
nearer to Her let us draw.
Earth and oil and frond of palm, to those who know
Her mysteries will show;
the rest of us can only guess.

Autumna
Autumn comes on fiercely when love dies aborning;
The harvest goddess is colder in the morning;
Though warm enough midday, nights bring us her warning:
Store harvest for winter.
But let us not for summer be ever mourning,
Nor the flowers grieve when bushes are now thorning;
Much is to be had from the fruiting and corning -
Be steady, no sprinter.
Nor should we the long, cold, dark nights to be scorning,
For the trees will soon find frost and snow their adorning,
And these replaced with buds and blossoms in horning;
Change is but a splinter.

Star goddess, oracle of the night, moon's daughter,
the mother of witchcraft, sister of motherhood,
blesséd are we who see your stars falling to earth.
Pursued by lustful gods of sky and sea, you fled
and as a floating island you would not tether
yourself to any male, nor become bound, nor marry.
Only you could or would give refuge to sister
Leto, permit her to give birth to her twin babes,
the new sun, the new moon, until bound by new roots.

She who grants permission, the face of the moon,
is calm and peaceful as a child resting, sun at noon.

Wealth, prosperity, children, enlightenment,
and intelligence from her loving round arms are sent.
For her divine favor we pray and sing praise;
we shall worship her holiness for all of our days.

Aurora
The goddess of the morning, dawn
Rose renewed to open the gates
For her brother, the rising sun,
And began the day, breaking light.
Rosy-fingered, she donned her robe
Of saffron and greeted the day
With a smile and a song, to wit,
Ready to cross the sky in flight.
To her lover she was once drawn
So that the gods she chose to probe
For his eternal life and yet
Forgot youth; he aged, a cruel plight.
Cicada remains, man is gone;
Alone now, she crosses the globe.

She who waters the wide ground,
Without her no water be found;
Long sullied by cities beside
Her waters poisoned or worse, dried.
Farms and factories are guilty
Both of polluting the silty
Depths and high, clear, blue waters now -
Blame both the foreman and the cow.
Grieve her lost purity and then
Work to make her cleaner again -
All is lost without the river,
We must save her, the life giver.

The Lady of the seas treads waves;
Wisely and merciful She saves.
The Creatrix is generous and kind,
Protective of all who came from Her mind,
No greater Mother can we ever find;
The Lady of the seas treads waves.
Coincident with the holy tree of life,
Rather than be daughter She chose to be wife;
Though those who depart Her find nothing but strife,
Wisely and merciful She saves.
She is both morning and evening star,
The gods are Her children, as all of us are;
She rules all of the seas both near and far;
The Lady of the seas treads waves.
Accompanied by lion, goat, and snake,
Serpent Queen whose enemies quake,
Yet in joy worship of Her will we make;
Wisely and merciful She saves.
Spirals round Her trees we will dance,
Loving Her we enter into a sacred trance,
Seafaring we go, given her blessing on chance;
The Lady of the seas treads waves.

River goddess, let waters flow,
Deeper are you than we can know;
Be still or fast.
Source of all things from long ago,
Teach us all things that you can show;
Future is past.
Upon you praises we bestow,
Everything you overflow
From first to last.
The sailor will unstep the mast,
The fisherman catch your repast;
You are divine.
And when the line is outward cast,
To the faithful enthusiast
Is sweet, not brine.
Your bounty is ever most vast,
All others you always outlast;
Drink deep your wine.
Upon you may the sun bright shine,
At your swelling all may now dine;
To you we go
To worship at your holy shrine.
Whether you are kind and benign
Or a storm blow,
Ever shall be faithfully thine
Those who watch your every sign;
Our love will grow.

The divine daughter of the fire god,
of fire, which is also lightning, and the

The goddess of the underworld cloaked, nude
But for sandals and jewels, receives bones
And ashes, bodies to be laid out, viewed.
Deep within the darkest of chthonic zones
She dwells and guards the rites of death and life -
Only may we learn when beneath the stones.
Though death comes by age, by rope, or by knife,
Then will she reveal what is not here taught,
Only then will she take the dead as wife.
Though loving her can be with secrets fraught,
Nevertheless we love her, darkest queen;
It is after her all our lives we've sought.
Without life there is no death, this we've seen.
This is a mystery which is plain crude.
Subtler still - death makes life: winter brings green.

Sicilian nymph of the island mountain
that burns with fire more frequently than others,
she burned with desire for a god, was mother
to two deities.
Daughter of a god or a titan, she chose

Demeter and Hephaistos; the volcano
became his workshop.
Though the crafty smith labors there still making
thunderbolts for the king of gods, the mother
goddess of grain benefits from the rich soil
of the volcano.

Agrona
Queen of the river and queen of brightness
Or river goddess of carnage, slaughter -
What might be the historian's best guess;
The sun shines blazing upon her water.
For she who may be the river's daughter
At the banks of the waters will undress
To pay homage to her ancient mater.
The goddess always gives us more, not less;
She will never let her people totter.
Let the river your soul clean and caress;
The sun shines blazing upon her water.

Andraste
Beg for victory, liberty:
The warrior queen called to her,
Goddess of war and battles won,
The barbarous name of triumph.
Divination by the hare's run -
Beg for victory, liberty
In the hands of the soldiers led
By the mother of the people.
Many oppressors they slaughtered;
The queen made her daughter's rapists
Beg for victory, liberty
From the oncoming storms of men.
When the Romans defeated
The queen, she lay dying and then
The last words on her lips were to
Beg for victory, liberty.

Holy goddess of love and fertility,
blesséd be thy body, beauty, and pleasure;
the lady brings us joy fulfilling duty,
where despair is illness, her desire's our cure.
Mother and Mistress, her swan delights mating
just as we delight in serving her always
for infinite are the ways to praise her name.
She is glory, she is bliss, all rejoicing
belongs to her for she sets our hearts ablaze,
our bodies will ever for her carry flame.

Arduinna
Through the Ardennes She rides upon boar-back,
The huntress side-saddle, bearing a knife;
Sworn to never be any one man's wife,
She takes Her boar through the heights to ransack.
Arduinna never lets Her aim slack
As She fearlessly takes Her prey's red life;
May She save us all from hunger and strife,
May the forest under Her never lack.
One day came men Her statue to tear down,
In hopes that Her worship come to an end,
But Her people rose up, Her to defend;
Though with hammers men destroyed Her high crown,
Never could they bring an end to Her feast,
Never could they stop Her hunting the beast.

Ame-no-Uzume-no-mikoto
The world was dark until the dawn danced for the sun on an overturned tub, tearing off all of her clothing and inducing the gods to such heavenly laughter that even in her anger the sun had to come out to see.
Revelry is hers,
naked dawn dancing, chorus
of laughter joyful.

Artemis
Artemis of the wildland, Mistress of the animals,
Daughter of the moon or the earth or a cow, huntress, wild,
Goddess of the hunt, reigning Queen of the forested halls.
Sister of the sun, truth, light, music, poetry, She calls:
I protect the virgins, maidens, and I will have no child;
Artemis of the wildland, Mistress of the animals.
Delighting in arrows, hunting bare, She-bear, mandibles
Ruddy with the joy of the hunt which lesser men reviled;
Goddess of the hunt, reigning Queen of the forested halls.
Seven bitches and six dogs, six gold-horned stags are Her thralls,
To the woman in childbirth She is gentle, kind, and mild;
Artemis of the wildland, Mistress of the animals.
Sixty daughters of Ocean sing Her melodies and squalls;
Twenty nymphs to Her guardianship are well reconciled;
Goddess of the hunt, reigning Queen of the forested halls.
Her dread vengeance lead many braggart hunters to their falls,
She slayed, and at the deaths of Her profane rapists She smiled;

Aphrodite
Daughter of the sky, foam-born from Ouranos's severed loin (the cruelest
cut) off the coast of Cythera; or perhaps of an Olympian and Titaness, daughter
of Zeus and Dione - unknown, conflicting origins. The wounds of love cut
deeply, breaking hearts, minds, and bodies with the soul-wracking pain of
torture, whether from the heavenly or the more common goddess. Deeply
do her effects penetrate, deep her fertility, her sex, her love, her gifts. Torture
is in the eye of the common beholder, but her beauty is universal, heavenly. Do
mortals even know what the purpose, the goal, the end, the telos of love is?
Or are we merely rutting, rotting carcasses who seek to escape the fate of all mortals?
Love and death guide all we do, say some soul-searchers, psychologists; or
it could be a plethora of archetypes, forms, logos; or it could be solely love
alone. Whatever the guiding star, love or war or both, she reigns high, and it
will not be until we are initiated into death that we learn truth together or alone.
Cruelest, hardest is the path of the lonely, so seek softness, love, we ever will.

Paganism
What do I mean
when I say that I am a pagan?
First
I am both a
pantheist & a polytheist & panentheist -
I believe in plural gods
and gods in
and as
and of
everything.
Existence is constantly becoming
and that becoming being
is plural
and divine.
Second
I am a believer in the magical
or supernatural
or paranormal
or whatever you like to call it -
that which is in the realm of the occult,
occluded and mysterious,
the ancient religious mysteries
and holy secrets.
Third
I worship especially the Goddess,
who has many names and faces,
who is mother to all,
the self-sufficient holy virgin,
the ancient crone older than time who knows all things,
the moon and the sea,
the starry-eyed and rainbow-hued,
the eternal child,
the ageless source,
the most benevolent,
the Highest of the High,
and the center of everything.
Mother, maiden, warrior, witch.
A fourth thing:
I am a seeker of alternate explanation
as well as absence of explanation
and reject the belief in the completeness of science -
not the possible benefits,
but the sole devotion
to scientific method, explanation, and pursuit.
Other means exist,
are desireable,
often offer alternate or even better benefits.
These include the artistic, literary, and creative means,
as well as the religious and magical previously mentioned,
in addition to other means
like familial, or plural, or historic,
just to name more.
Fifth
I attend to the natural holy cycles
in the wheel of the year,
the turn of the stars, planets,
in the sky.
I take these cycles as evidence
for a sixth claim:
the recurring self
is in a cycle of death to life
and back again -
a cycle as eternal
as the universe itself.
Seventh
I accept the laws of change,
which dictate reactions to actions
as well as reward and punishment,
on the scale of causality
and also scales greater,
like karma.
This leads me to eighth
distinguish between
beneficence and maleficence
through harm versus kindness,
and all degrees between,
and a principle of harming none,
not even oneself,
excepting only defense,
which must be reactive
or preventative
rather than pro-active
and preceding
any harm or threat thereof.
Then ninth comes
a respect for ancient traditions
and ancient peoples,
the first ways and the first knowers,
and hence also a preservation of
relics, chronicles, and the elderly,
as well as ancestor-worship.
This is tied to the tenth meaning
of my statement that
I am a pagan:
an impetus to preserve and conserve the earth,
the ecological systems,
and the geologic stability we need
to survive not only as a species
but also as a kingdom of life on earth,
as inhabitants of this
wandering star
we call home.
It is our duty to ourselves,
our co-inhabitants -
the other Terran species,
every blade of grass,
cold virus,
and elephant herd,
as well as our duty
to the rest of hte universe
to keep our orbit round our star,
to preserve this solar ecological system
so as to save the Milky Way Galaxy
as a whole,
for should our galaxy fail,
then the entire universe is at risk,
just as much as destroying a pond
can kill a town,
a population,
a butterfly.

Mixed at Intersections
Imposter syndrome runs rife through my blood,
Passing for white with privilege - and loss;
Never knowing my place, I bear my cross -
Of my forefathers' sins, there are a flood.
Generational traumas through me bud,
The mark on my genes and mind they emboss;
Disability-tempest will me toss -
Mental-emotional clouds o'er me scud.
To heal these wounds within myself I must
Seek restorative justice, somewhere find
The means to overcome violent lust
Which in the past created my own kind;
Without healing there can be no real trust,
Every fate is with others' entwined.

Child at Play
Childhood is a series of games,
If privilege one's childhood frames,
Until time and age one's life tames;
Children will play.
As a teen, play goes up in flames,
Actions take more serious aims;
The goals of play much time thus maims,
Childhood at bay.

Divine Contact
When I awoke, the woman spoke: "We must now leave for to achieve what duties must be be done just." I thus replied: "In bed I lied, and would now lay throughout the day, but for your words - we tend the herds."
The herder's work is never done,
For the herd must never decrease,
If we are to survive for long,
Then our working must never cease.
I traveled from here to there, some many miles far to see the star of day rise high in cloudless sky; shivered the dog, my eyes in fog until the turn of sun to burn off the cold mist, and light us kissed.
I want to say that life is good
But sometimes it feels uncertain,
Unless the gods rise up and pull
To show what's hidden by curtain.
One day, when I exhausted by lack of sleep was, took a short pause to listen to the sheep and ewe, in reverie one came to me; and then she said: "Carefully tread, 'tis holy hill," and so on till...
When the gods choose to us to speak
We must listen in reverence.
Unless we can recognize them,
There's no cure for our ignorance.
"You must now pay a fee for clay are your two feet, the holy meet." So out I took my wealth - a book - but it was not wisdom she sought: "Only in gold may you pay, told are we who keep sacred land steep."
Sacred are those who wisdom loves,
But wisdom loves not the wealthy;
They are sick with greed and distrust,
With love can never be healthy.
So her fee paid I, and then fade disguise away, showed now what lay behind her lies, mortal who dies - not the divine, nor any shrine, merely a hut, trickster of smut. I was a fool, used as a tool.
Trust not your mere mortal eyes for
Easily deceived are humans,
Better to stick to working the flock
And meddle not in divine plans.

To the New Year
May this be the year we all find love, give love
to all those in need; may this be the year we
all are kinder, gentler, better than before;
may this be the year we all prosper as one.
May this be the year we end the hunger of
billions by feeding them, ourselves learn to be
giving without it being a heavy chore;
may this be the year all hatred ends, is done.
Out with the old, in with the new; as below - so above.
We eat greens, peas, cornbread, pork, for health, wealth, prosperity;
as within - so without. May those who have less now have more;
as the universe - so the soul. Bring us all good fortune.
to all those in need; may this be the year we
all are kinder, gentler, better than before;
may this be the year we all prosper as one.
May this be the year we end the hunger of
billions by feeding them, ourselves learn to be
giving without it being a heavy chore;
may this be the year all hatred ends, is done.
Out with the old, in with the new; as below - so above.
We eat greens, peas, cornbread, pork, for health, wealth, prosperity;
as within - so without. May those who have less now have more;
as the universe - so the soul. Bring us all good fortune.
